Older Adults Have Joined the Social Media Revolution

Do you use Facebook? LinkedIn? Twitter? The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project reports that social networking use among internet users ages 50 and up nearly doubled from 22 percent in April 2009 to 42 percent in May 2010. Loss of Muscle Mass Comes With Aging

Researchers say that sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass, affects about 10 percent of men and women over 60 and is a major reason why the elderly lose mobility and cannot live independently.
“In the future, sarcopenia will be known as much as osteoporosis is now,” said Dr. Bruno Vellas, president of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. Read more about the condition in a recent New York Times article.
