Primary responsibilities will include outreach to area preschools, Park District, and other organizations serving children and families. Applicants should also be prepared to do readers’ advisory and reference, catalog and computer instruction, collection development, assist with preschool storytime and other programs for children from birth to 8th grade, and other duties as assigned. This position requires knowledge of children’s literature, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, solid computer skills, excellent communication skills, and a sense of humor.
Requires Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited school and prior experience working with children in a school or library setting. Chinese or Spanish language fluency preferred.

Wilmette Public Library is looking for an energetic information services professional with an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree. The ideal candidate is creative, enjoys working in a team environment, and has exceptional customer service skills. This person is interested in emerging technologies and will use them to promote and provide library services. Must be able to make informed decisions independently and communicate effectively.
The successful candidate will assist all library customers but will have a focus on teen services. This person will conduct outreach activities and plan, implement, and evaluate age/interest appropriate programming and collections for teens.
Position includes general reference and reader’s advisory desk duties as assigned. Weekend and evening hours are required.
• Minimum of 1 year work experience in teen and adult services in a public library setting.
• Minimum of 1 year work experience developing, planning, and facilitating library programs for teens and adults.
• Experience working with community partners to plan programming, special events, and other initiatives for teens and adults.
• Ability to seek out, evaluate, and implement new ideas and best practices for teen and adult services.

The position involves a considerable amount of walking, including up and down stairs. The employee is frequently required to stretch and reach using both arms and hands.
