Mission Statement
The Wilmette Public Library’s Mission Statement/Statement of Purpose guides the selection of materials as it does the development of services and the allocation of resources.
The Wilmette Public Library District exists to serve the informational, intellectual, cultural and recreational needs of the Wilmette and Kenilworth resident and business communities. The term “informational” is used in its broadest sense, to include “not only the sum total of recorded human experience - factual, imaginative, scientific, and humanistic - but also the unrecorded experience which is available only from human resources to which library users may be referred.”
The library supports the individual's right to have access to ideas and information representing all points of view. The Board of Trustees of the Wilmette Public Library has adopted the following American Library Association documents: Code of Ethics, Library Bill of Rights, Labels and Rating Systems, Challenged Materials, Free Access to Libraries for Minors, Evaluating Library Collections, Expurgation of Library Materials, Restricted Access to Library Materials, Exhibit Spaces and Bulletin Boards, Meeting Rooms, The Freedom to Read, The Freedom to View. These documents are attachments in the Wilmette Public Library Policy Manual.

Employee Compensation
Pursuant to Public Act 97-609, effective, January 1, 2012, information regarding employee compensation is available in the Administration Offices, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Green Initiatives (List of activities and goals)
The library will work toward developing a green building and grounds that will serve as a model for the community--from the Wilmette Public Library 2006 Long Range Plan.
