Registration starts July 16 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents and July 23 for nonresidents. Sponsored by the Friends of the Wilmette Library.

  • K-9 Reading Buddies

    When: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 - 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Sign up for a 15 minute slot to read your favorite stories to a trained therapy dog. Grades 1–5. Wilmette and Kenilworth residents only. K-9 Reading Buddies of the North Shore is a Therapy Dogs International Children Reading to Dogs Program. Registration begins June 4 for all dates; visit the Youth Desk or call 847-256-6945. Limit 2 dates per child.

  • Stop-Motion Animation

    When: Thursday, July 31, 2014 - 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Make your own animated movie! Participants will create a story, photograph it, and then computer-animate it. Please bring a flash drive. Grades 6-9. Registration starts July 17 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents and July 24 for nonresidents.

  • Book Buddies

    When: Thursday, July 31, 2014 - 7:00 PM - 7:00 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Older children pair up with younger ones to share books, crafts, and fun. Older buddies should be entering grades 6 and up; younger buddies should be ages 4 to 7. Registration begins each Monday morning and continues until that week’s program is full.

  • Summer Reading Club Celebration

    When: Tuesday, August 05, 2014 - 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    Where: Youth Department

    Celebrate the end of Summer Reading Club with a party in the Youth Department. Drop in between 6:00 and 8:00 for ice cream. Readers who met their summer reading goal can also pick up a certificate. There will be performances of the Great Scott Comedy and Illusion Show at 6:15 and 7:15. Sponsored by the Friends of the Wilmette Library.

  • Youth Chess Drop-In

    When: Sunday, August 10, 2014 - 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Drop by for informal, fun competition with other kids who love the game. Bring chess sets and pieces, if possible. All levels of players are welcome. Space is limited to the first 24 players to arrive. All ages.

  • Drive-In Movie

    When: Thursday, August 14, 2014 - 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
    Where: Auditorium

    Let's recreate the drive-in experience for our youngsters. Make your own car out of a cardboard box and then sit back and relax while we watch some classic cartoons. Each child will be provided with a box and all the supplies necessary to decorate their car. Cookies will be served. Ages 4-7 with an adult. Registration starts July 31 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents and August 7 for nonresidents.

  • Park �a �Day Challenge: Maple Park

    When: Monday, August 18, 2014 - 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
    Where: Maple Park

    Join us for an outdoor storytime when you take the Park-a-Day Challenge to play, discover new play spaces, and promote children's unstructured play. In partnership with The Alliance for Early Childhood and area park districts and libraries.

  • Stuffed Animal Sleepover

    When: Tuesday, August 19, 2014 - 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Join us for this special evening storytime for you and your favorite stuffed pal. We’ll listen to stories and do a craft before we tuck our friends in for the night. Come back the next day to pick up your stuffed animal and find out what the animals did in the Library while you were sleeping. Ages 4 to 8. Registration starts August 5 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents and August 12 for nonresidents.

  • Park a �Day Challenge: Townley Park

    When: Wednesday, August 20, 2014 - 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
    Where: Townley Park

    Join us for an outdoor storytime when you take the Park-a-Day Challenge to play, discover new play spaces, and promote children's unstructured play. In partnership with The Alliance for Early Childhood and area park districts and libraries.

  • Toddler Art

    When: Friday, August 22, 2014 - 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Drop in any time between 10:00 and 11:00 to make some age-appropriate crafts to take home. You can leave the mess here! Ages 1-3 with an adult; siblings welcome.

  • Calling All Kindergarteners!

    When: Saturday, August 23, 2014 - 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
    Where: Youth Program Room

    Make the Library your first stop in your exciting journey to elementary school! Kids will have a storytime and craft while adults get a special tour of resources for kindergarteners. This is the perfect time to register for a library card if you don’t already have one. Kids will go home with a bag of goodies to help them get ready for school. Grade K with an adult. Registration starts August 9 for Wilmette & Kenilworth residents and August 16 for nonresidents.
