Digital Exhibit:
Letters from Soldiers of World War I to the
Woman's Committee of the Wilmette Guard: 1917-1919

A digital scrapbook of letters written by World War I era soldiers, sailors and airmen is now at Digital Past.

The original collection was donated to the Wilmette Public Library by Mrs. Morton Lennox Paterson, a member of the Woman’s Committee of the Wilmette Guard in 1917-1919.

Women and girls knitting for soldiers

The photo shows Wilmette women and girls who gathered to knit warm clothing for U.S. military personnel during World War I. This scrapbook of over 100 notes, letters and cards told them how much their efforts were appreciated.
