Through netLibrary, Wilmette Public Library patrons have access to thousands of free electronic books. This wide-ranging collection includes classics as well as contemporary books, the popular Cliff's Notes and Idiot's Guide to... series.

  • About.com: E Books -- Links to numerous sites about e-books and e-publishing.
  • Bartleby.com -- Includes the classics of literature, nonfiction, poetry and reference works.
  • Bibliomania -- Hundreds of searchable full text works of classic fiction, popular fiction, short stories, drama and poetry. Also includes text of religious, research and reference books.
  • Blue Moon Review -- An electronic quarterly that focuses solely on literary works.
  • Bookspot: Full-Text Classics -- Links to full-text downloadable works on the internet.
  • Chapter One -- From the Washington Post online, this site provides an online view of the first chapters of selected new books.
  • Collections of Electronic Books and Other E-Texts -- Provides access to novels, short stories, plays, poetry, nonfiction and historical documents available in their entirety on the Internet.
  • Complete Works of William Shakespeare -- Shakespeare's works arranged in categories: comedy, history, tragedy and poetry. Also includes links to other Shakespeare resources.
  • Concordances of Great Books -- Texts and fully searchable concordances of more than 300 great books.
  • Dear Reader.com -- Register for one of the free book clubs on this site and receive part of a chapter of a book via e-mail each Monday through Friday.
  • E-Book Directory -- A library and resource center of e-books and booklets from around the world.
  • ebook Locator -- A database of thousands of e-books, eBook Locator provides reviews, excerpts, and author bios as well as availability at leading retail sites.

  • Great Books Online -- An index to online Great Books in English translation.

  • The On-Line Books Page -- More than 20,000 English works, including books as well as magazines and newspapers.
  • Project Gutenberg -- Access to literature digitally republished by this not-for-profit organization. Texts, which are taken primarily from books published pre-1923, includes classic books from authors such as Shakespeare, Poe, Dante, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Lewis Carroll, and thousands of others.
  • SearcheBooks.com -- A search engine designed to locate electronic texts.
