Digital Storytelling Project

Teen Advisory Board Game Maker Academy Scratch Digital Storytelling Anime

Have you ever wondered how to make a digital story or poem with music and graphics? Digital storytelling takes the traditional art of oral storytelling and integrates digital images, video, music and other media to add vivid color and persuasive dimension to the storyteller's voice. Join us for one of our free workshops where you’ll learn the basics of digital storytelling, and receive the software and skills you’ll need to create your own digital productions for video-sharing sites like Youtube and Dailymotion.

WPL's Digital Storytelling Project consists of an introductory class followed by a series of optional workshops. The introductory class exposes participants to the software and techniques they'll need to create powerful multimedia narratives in the Ken Burns style. Participants receive a free CD containing all the applications they'll need to weave images, music, narrative and voice into a short (two to five minute) digital story or poem. Each participant has the option of working on a sample project, or focus on a project of their own. The optional workshops provide participants with an informal opportunity to refine their image and audio editing skills as they work on their individual projects.

After attending the workshops, storytellers are encouraged to continue working on their projects and to post them to the web for others to see and hear. Sponsored by the Wilmette Public Library's Teen Advisory Board, the Digital Storytelling Project is offered free of charge to area residents between the ages of 12 and 18.

DSP workshops are offered intermittently throughout the year, with several offerings scheduled during the sumer months. To learn when the next program is scheduled, contact the Adult Services Department at 847-256-6930.
