Emerging Writers Competition
Entries for the fifth annual Illinois Emerging Writers Competition are currently being accepted. "The competition will again consist of two categories: The Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award and the James Jones Short Story Award. Three cash prizes will be available in both categories for original, unpublished works." Winning entries will be submitted to Ninth Letter magazine, RHINO magazine, and Downstate Story magazine for possible publication. The competition is open to Illinois residents age 18 and over. High School Pizza Night - June 1 @ 7:00
High school students are invited to take a study break in the Auditorium with free pizzas and sodas from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. The library has great study areas with individual carrels and tables for group study on each floor. Pizza night is sponsored and hosted by the library's Teen Advisory Board.

Anime Club - June 6 @ 10:00
Wilmette Public Library's Animeniacs club meets one Saturday afternoon each month for an anime screening and discussion, trivia contests, plus occasional Fanfiction (writing), Fanart (drawing) and manga workshops. Japanese snacks are always provided. On June 6 we will be showing the popular anime series Hikaru No Go. Before the film, we'll hear a presentation on Anime Central by Diana and Michelle Kim. Following the screening will be an introductory workshop on how to create video games and manga using the computer program Scratch.

Learn Robocode! - June 7 @ 2:00
Build the best and destroy the rest! Learn how to create your virtual robot and code its behavior for competitive battlebot fun and learning! Participants in this free workshop will create their own robot and code its AI using the Java programming language. Everyone will receive free software and handouts, and will qualify for entry in our summer Robocode Olympiad! Robocode Academy and the Robocode Olympiad are sponsored by the WPL Game Design Club. Anime Club - May 2
Wilmette Public Library's Animeniacs club meets one Saturday afternoon each month for an anime screening and discussion, trivia contests, plus occasional Fanfiction (writing), Fanart (drawing) and manga workshops. Japanese snacks are always provided. Our next meeting will be on Saturday, May 2nd from 10:30am-1pm in the auditorium. We will be screening Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" (124 min). Following the screening will be games and an anime trivia contest.
