We're Expanding our Hours and Services!

In response to Illinois entering Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan, we are excited to announce that Wilmette Public Library is moving into the next phase of our reopening plan. We have expanded a number of our services, and will introduce further services and pre-pandemic policies throughout the summer.

We will continue to have some restrictions in place to help protect our community members who have yet to be vaccinated, those who are unable to vaccinated, and our youngest patrons who are not yet eligible for vaccination. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we continue to expand our services.

The following updates are in effect as of Monday, June 14.

Mask Guidelines

  • For everyone's continued safety, masks are encouraged. Masks are strongly recommended for unvaccinated patrons.
  • Masks are required for everyone (adults, children 2+, and staff) in the second floor Youth Services department. We plan to maintain this requirement until our youngest patrons are eligible for vaccination.

Services & Guidelines

  • Patrons and staff should continue to maintain 6-foot social distance.
  • Computer use available for 1 hour sessions.
  • Printing, copying, scanning, and fax are available. Charges for prints and copies will resume in July.
  • Study and meeting rooms remain unavailable. These spaces will likely be available for public use in early fall.
  • Additional open table seating is available where space is sufficient.
  • Programs remain virtual through the summer, with added outdoor programs for children. Indoor, in-person programs will resume in the fall.
  • The outdoor book return by the front door is now open 24/7.
  • Returned items are no longer quarantined.
  • Eating and drinking is allowed, except in Youth Services and at computer stations.
  • Toys and interactives remain unavailable in Youth Services.
  • Book donations to the Friends of the Library are still not accepted. We expect the Friends to resume accepting donations in late summer, following the library construction project, before reopening Books Down Under in early fall.
  • The Friends of the Library will be holding an outdoor book sale on Saturday, July 17.
