Wilmette Library District (WPLD) is a public library district serving residents Wilmette, Illinois. WPLD is responsible for the Library's financial stewardship and for all operations, resources, services, and staff. The WPLD fiscal year runs July 1st - June 30th. An overview of the Library’s financial and budgetary information is presented below, with illustrated graphics and resource links provided.
Using an example property tax bill totaling $15,000 for a home owner in the Village of Wilmette, in School District 39, the Library portion of the total tax bill is approximately 4%, or $600.
The primary source of Library funding comes from property taxes.
General Fund Library operations are budgeted and expended in three key categories.
The Library develops a Working Budget each fiscal year. Drafts of the proposed budget are discussed in a series of committee and regular meetings of the Board of Library Trustees, all of which are open to the public. The Board approves the final draft of the Working Budget in the spring. Legal spending authority is set by the Budget and Appropriations Ordinance, which is proposed and reviewed in the summer, and adopted following a public hearing.
All library meeting dates, agenda, and minutes are posted the Library Board Meetings page.
