Wilmette Public Library is seeking a fun, enthusiastic and energetic candidate for a Full-time Circulation Assistant to work the evening and weekend shifts, who is adept at providing that exceptional customer service experience to our patrons. Under the direction of the Circulation Manager, this position will warmly greet all patrons while performing all Circulation-related functions needed. The successful candidate must be able to multi task, prioritize and demonstrate patience, basic computer skills and top-level communication skills.

Circulation Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Assist with checking materials in and out, issue library cards, and maintain accurate patron records in our database.
  • Provide courteous, direct customer service, resolving patron-related issues and ensure a positive library experience for our patrons.
  • Screen and answer incoming departmental phone calls as well as in-person questions.
  • Communicate and enforce Library policies & procedures.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Hours & Comp:

  • Full-time, non-exempt position working 37.5 hours per week with the following schedule:
    • 12:30PM – 9:00PM Monday through Friday
    • One weekend rotation a month includes:
      • Saturdays 9:00am – 5:00pm & Sundays 12:00pm – 5:00pm
  • Starting hourly rate for the position:
    • Starting rate from $14.33/hour DOQ.

Qualifications:

  • HS Dipl/GED required
  • 1 year of experience working with the public required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to take direction, multi-task and work independently.
  • Experience with work in a public library setting a plus, and experience with Polaris integrate library system highly desirable.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic math and alphabetizing skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy in cash register transactions.
  • Bilingual abilities a plus.
