Digitization Station

Digitization station computer and equipment

Located near the entrance to the Quiet Study Room, this digital archiving station is a Windows computer equipped with

  • a professional-grade negative, slide, film, and photo flatbed scanner
  • a video (VHS and 8mm cassette) converter
  • an analog-to-digital audio converter
  • see below more details for each digitizing device

The flatbed scanner is an Epson V8500 and allows patrons to scan and save high resolution images from positive or negative photographs, film strips, and slides of many different sizes (35mm slides, 35mm film strips, medium format film 2.25in, and 4x5 inch film).

The video digitization device is an Elgato Video Capture that works with our Samsung DVD-V9800 VCR and Sony Video Cassette Recorder EVO-510 to convert VHS tapes and 8mm cassettes to digital MP4 files. We do not have the capacity to convert 8mm film reels at this time.

The audio converter is DigitalLife USB Audio Capture which will digitize cassette tape audio to MP3 files.

Patrons can save to a flash drive or burn the file to DVD. Blank DVD-Rs are available for purchase for $0.25 and 32 gigabyte flash drives are sold for $8.

Reservations: The Digitization Station is available to reserve for up to 7 days in advance, for 2 hours. To book the Digitization Station, call the Technology Desk at 847.256.6951.
