Going Exploring With Your Library Card

Start Date

Even library super-users may be unfamiliar with the many perks that their library card can unlock! In addition to allowing you to borrow materials ranging from board books to ghost-hunting kits, did you know that your library card can be used to obtain free or discounted admission to over 50 different museums, parks, and zoos throughout the state of Illinois?

Your Wilmette Public Library card allows you to access two programs: Museum Adventure Pass and Explore More Illinois.

Take advantage of your library card's benefits — and the sunny summer weather — to go exploring!

Some frequently-asked questions:

What kind of discount do the Museum Adventure Pass and Explore More Illinois programs provide?

Each attraction has its own, unique discount and redemption rules. For example, the Museum Adventure Pass for the ever-popular Brookfield Zoo provides general admission for two people.

How many passes can I check out at one time?

The Museum Adventure Pass program allows for one pass, per family, per week. The Explore More Illinois program allows for three active reservations per library card at one time.

Are the major Chicago museums, such as the Art Institute, included in the Museum Adventure Pass and Explore More Illinois programs?

Unfortunately, only cardholders for the Chicago Public Library (CPL) are able to access free and discounted admission for the major Chicago museums, such as the Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Shedd Aquarium. However, the Explore More Illinois program does offer $5 off admission to the Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) and both programs provide deals for popular Chicago-area attractions, such as the Chicago Botanic Gardens.

How do I get a pass?

For attractions included in the Explore More Illinois program, you can log in with your library card number and reserve passes yourself! For attractions included in the Museum Adventure Pass program, simply call or email the Youth Desk. We are happy to print a physical copy of your pass for you to pick up at the library or save you an extra trip by emailing the pass directly to you.

For any other questions, or to reserve a pass, please reach out to us by emailing youthdesk@wilmettelibrary.info or calling the library at 847.256.5025.
