Children's Books for Disability Pride Month

Start Date

During July, we honor the disability community's history, achievements, experiences, and struggles. The first official Disability Pride Month celebration was in July 2015, which also marked the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). One of the books I'm most excited about is an upcoming release (on August 19) that's actually a British import, Owning It: Our disabled childhoods in our own words, edited by James Catchpole, Lucy Catchpole and Jen Campbell, with contributions from Ali Abbas, Polly Atkin, Imani Barbarin, Jen Campbell, James Catchpole, Christa Couture, Carly Findlay, M. Leona Godin, Eugene Grant, Jan Grue, Matilda Feyisayo Ibini, Ilya Kaminsky, Sora J. Kasuga, Jessica Kellgren-Fozard, Elle McNicoll, Daniel Sluman, Nina Tame, Rebekah Taussig, Steven Verdile, Alex Wegman, Ashley Harris Whaley and Kendra Winchester. Illustrated by Sophie Kamlish. The audiobook is even narrated by the creators.
